Your pet’s teeth play a big role in their overall health. From surface-level problems, like plaque or tartar, to deeper conditions, such as tooth decay or gum disease, regular dental care can help prevent some serious health issues.
The majority of dogs and cats over 3 years of age tend to have that buildup of bacterial growth on their teeth. In the earlier stages, our veterinarian can easily perform deep dental cleanings on your pet’s teeth and gums to remove this buildup and prevent future problems. These cleanings usually occur annually for adult cats and dogs, moving toward biannual visits as our pets age into their golden years. All pets also receive full-mouth digital x-rays as part of their cleaning package. This helps us determine endodontic problems that can be missed during a visual examination.
At a routine dental cleaning, your pets will be placed under general anesthesia to allow our team the opportunity to get into all the nooks and crannies without causing excessive stress for your animal. We’ll start out by administering a physical examination and running a few laboratory tests to make sure they’re healthy enough for the anesthesia. All of our patients have an IV catheter in place with IV fluids when undergoing any anesthetic procedure. State of the art safety monitors for anesthesia -- including end-tidal CO2, pulse oximeter, blood pressure monitors and ECG with active body warming systems -- allow our team to keep careful track of your pet’s vital signs. When they wake up, they’ll be in a comfortable and pleasant environment with constant supervision to ensure they’re recovering appropriately. When it’s all said and done, you can come pick up your fresh-breathed pet and relax at home.
