At Cobblestone Animal Hospital, we know that protecting your pet’s health is important to you. Preventative medicine is one of the most effective ways to ensure that your pet is happy and healthy by your side for years to come. There are a number of life-threatening illnesses in cats and dogs that can be easily prevented by a quick visit to our clinic.
The core vaccines for cats and dogs are specific to the diseases each species is most susceptible to. In cats, this includes the feline herpesvirus 1 (FHV1), feline calicivirus (FCV), feline panleukopenia virus (FPV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV for kittens) and the rabies vaccines. For dogs, it’s the canine parvovirus (CPV), canine distemper virus (CDV), canine adenovirus (CAV), and rabies vaccines.
Beyond these basic vaccinations, your pet may also benefit from some additional protection. Just like in high-risk people, we may suggest a few more vaccines if your pet is prone to getting sick or if they’re likely to come into contact with specific diseases that aren’t covered in the core vaccinations. As always, our team is happy to discuss your available options and explain why we might be suggesting a particular vaccine. We want to make sure that you feel like you and your veterinarian are working together to the benefit of your pet’s health .
