Dr. Kara Van Voorhis, DVM

Dr. Kara Van Voorhis grew up on Bainbridge island and, with the exception of four years in Massachusetts while attending veterinary school, has lived in the Pacific Northwest all her life.  She majored in zoology and biological oceanography at the University of Washington as an undergraduate.  After working in oceanography for several years, she returned to school to earn her DVM from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, then completed a one year rotating internship at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle.  

Dr. Kara spent several years in emergency medicine before moving into urgent care and general practice. She especially enjoys emergency and critical care, internal medicine, preventative care, and connecting with owners in a way that helps them feel informed, supported, and confident in their pets’ care.  She shares her life with her husband, her middle school son, two cats, a small flock of chickens and an aquarium of fish.  Her passions outside of work include travel, skiing, hiking, biking, puzzles and cheering for the Sounders.
